Strength Training for Seniors
Safe, sustainable progress to help you move comfortably, rebuild confidence, and stay independent.
When it comes to older adults, the goal of training isn't just about what happens in the gym. It’s about making everyday life easier. Whether that means carrying groceries without pain, getting up from the floor with ease, or simply moving through the day with confidence.
If you are managing past injuries, returning after a long break, or stepping into a gym for the very first time, we start exactly where you are. No rush. No judgment. Just building steady, sustainable momentum.
The Story That Shaped My Approach:
My Grandmother, Kiran Bai
I have been working with older adults since 2017. Beyond the physical results, I genuinely find immense fulfillment in connecting with seniors, learning from their life experiences, and helping them break down stereotypes about aging and exercise.
My dedication to this work deepened profoundly when I witnessed the transformative impact of strength training firsthand through my own grandmother, Kiran Bai.
In 2020, owing to the COVID-19 lockdowns, my 82-year-old grandmother found herself stuck indoors. Suddenly inactive, she experienced a sharp decline in her mobility. An ankle sprain and inflammation made it even more difficult for her to move. She never liked being physically dependent on anyone, and this sudden loss of capability took a heavy toll on her - she admitted she was worried her end was nearing.
Wanting to take control, she asked me if there were things she could do at home. We started small, doing Zoom sessions using water bottles for resistance, and eventually progressed to my old gym lifting kit: adjustable dumbbells, resistance bands, and a barbell with plate weights.
She genuinely enjoyed the process. She often said the exercises reminded her of movements she did growing up, like drawing water from a well and carrying heavy buckets for a distance, bringing back fond memories.

Not only did she feel stronger, but the consistent training completely restored her confidence and her self-belief that she could remain physically independent. Within a few months, she was finding it easier to climb steps, and was getting up from the floor without anyone's help for the first time in years.
She lifted weights 2-3 times a week, doing full-body strength training that targeted all the major muscle groups within a comfortable range of motion. We moved at a pace that worked for her, picking weights that felt comfortable yet challenging for that day. She also used a recumbent bike for cardiovascular conditioning. Her workouts included variations of squats, rows, push exercises, deadlifts, stationary lunges, carries, and floor exercises. Some of these movements are often mistakenly assumed to be "unsafe" for seniors, but they were the very things that helped her regain her daily independence.
My grandmother passed away in 2023, but she proved that it is never too late to regain your physical freedom. Her fearless spirit remains at the heart of why I train older adults today.

How We Train :
We focus on what your body can do and what you want to get out of your training.
Here is what you can expect when we work together:
-
We begin with a simple conversation about your past experience with exercise, how your body is feeling, and what you want to get out of training, whether that means making daily activities easier, managing old aches, or simply wanting to move more comfortably.
-
We build your capabilities at a pace that works for you. We pick exercises and weights that feel comfortable yet challenging, adapting the tools to fit your current fitness level as you progress.
-
We build foundational strength that automatically makes your day-to-day routine easier. Getting stronger in your sessions naturally translates to better balance, a reduced risk of falls, and the physical independence to move through life exactly how you want to.
If you’re wondering whether coaching with me would be a good fit, the best place to start is a simple conversation. We’ll talk through what feels realistic right now, and whether working together makes sense.
